Check out some of what we do
Born in 2001 Jacob received his first quarter midget for his 4th birthday and from that day on there has never been a doubt in his mind about what he was born to do.
From 2006 to 2010 Jacob Ran 1/4 midgets at Little T and Silver City
In 2011 he moved to Bandolero racing where he won 4 State Championships and raced all over the Northeast
Beginning in 2016 Jacob raced Ministocks at the Waterford Speedbowl and Thompson speedway where he won a total of 5 races and broke the track record during time trials
In 2016 Jacob made his first start with the Pro4 modified series where he won the first time out after starting last. He went on to win 7 out of 9 races and the championship the following year driving for Mark Charette in the 21
In 2018 Jacob made his first start with the Modified Racing Series driving the APE 76. He was able to win the rookie title and finish 5th in points his first season in a 600 horsepower ground pounder at just 15.
In 2018 Jacob also made his first start with the Exit Reality Pro Truck Series driving for the Jencik family. Setting fast time and qualifying on the pole at the famous Thompson World Series but lady luck struck and he lost an engine while leading in dominating fashion. For 2019 they teamed up again and showed the strength of the team winning 4 races and setting the bar as the highest win percentage in a single season for the Exit Reality Pro truck series
For 2019 everything changed. Jacob decided to bet on himself and walk from his tour modified ride, chasing other opportunities as they came. It lead to an incredible season, racing Pro Trucks, Pro Late Models, making his NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour debut at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, first start in a Late Model at Stafford for Tom Fearn, finishing 3rd in his first Tri-Track Open Modified race for Russ Hersey and even racing on dirt for the first time.
In 2020, the year covid hit our nation, Jacob's racing looked bleak with all local racing shutdown. Due to this Jacob sold his street car and purchased a dirt modified to run in New York. This is Jacobs first and to date only time as a car owner. Once racing resumed, he also joined forces with Jason Derwin to drive the Royal Screw Machine #20 where they won in the first time out at the Speedbowl. Unfortunately we lost Jason just two weeks later.
At the very end of 2020, while dealing with the loss of Jason, Jacob and team decided to head south to the historic Hickory Motor Speedway where they teamed up with Reedy Racing and finished 3rd in his Super Late Model debut at the infamous Fall Brawl. They teamed up again for 2021 and had a top 10 in their CARS Tour debut, then suffered heartbreak while running 3rd in the North South Shootout at Caraway when an alternator failed.
After running 3 races for Jack Bateman in the 47 MRS modified in 2020 Jacob started 2021 with a bang winning the first race of the season at Monadnock Speedway. The team followed this up with wins at Groveton and Lee and great runs across northern New England. A flat tire while leading at Claremont sent the team into the final race trailing in the championship standing and despite winning the race at Lee they came up just short of the championship.
In 2021 Jacob got the opportunity to drive a Nema midget for the king of the midgets Randy Cabral. The day was full of issues starting with having to change a rearend and missing practice but when the car wasn't being evil Jacob showed great speed and ability ending the day with a solid top 10 from a last place start in a 20 car field. To this day he says these are the most fun cars he has ever raced
The Chilibowl, the Daytona 500 of midget racing. Jacob got the call to team up with Jeff Johnson Motorsports for one of his dream races. Although the week did not go as planned having miscues starting on practice day set them behind the 8 ball, Jacob made the most of the experience and by Saturday, soup day, felt comfortable. He ranks this as the hardest racecar he has ever driven and looks to run the 2024 Chilibowl again. (This is the only time Jacob has ever raced a dirt midget.)
With only 10 races under his belt on dirt, Jacob secures a win on opening day at Lebanon Valley Speedway.
Jacob rejoins forces with APE in a new Troyer Chassis. Making his first ever starts at Seekonk and the Turkey Derby where the team showed promising speed and top ten finishes.
After dominating the 2021 MRS season with the most wins, the most laps lead and the most qualifying wins but coming up just short in the championship battle, Jacob entered 2022 highly motivated to bring Jack Bateman his first MRS championship. With an exciting win at Oxford bringing him back into contention after a rough start to the season and a come from behind charge at the last race of the season that vaulted him and the team to the 2022 Modified Racing Series championship. The little team also had a top 10 on the Whelen Modified Tour after starting 26th at Monadnock Speedway. This was the first time that the Jack Bateman team had run on the Whelen Tour in nearly 20 years.
Here is just a partial sample of the cars and teams that JPR has raced at tracks from Maine to Florida and west to Oklahoma
For 2023 Jacob made his ARCA debut at the test in Daytona for the 44 team of Jeff McClure. Testing went excellent as on his practice day he was 5th fast of 34 drivers to take time and ended up 9th of 64 total drivers to take time over the 2 days. The plan is to find funding for Daytona and see where the season goes from there.
For the end of 2023 my family purchased a new car and we decided to throw it back to my early years with a special wrap. We took the car to North Wilkesboro for the Whelen tour race and qualified 16th out of nearly 40 teams. Unfortunately the race did not go our way with some pit miscues causing lost laps. In 23 I also made my debut in the Boston Louie memorial at Seekonk. This was special to me as it was in a car that I said I was going to drive when I was 10 years old before I even knew Randy Cabral. I ended up finishing 5th in a stacked field that included Ken Schrader and Sammy Swindell. In 23 I also ran a part time schedule at Stafford in the Latemodel where we pulled down a few qualifying wins and top tens and a top 5. There were not a lot of bright spots in the 23 season but good runs in MRS NEMA and at Lebanon Valley in the dirt car made a very tough season a little more barrable.
For 2024 things were looking very uncertain. Jack had let us know that he was cutting back to 1 team officially and that we would not be back in the 47 for the 24 season. Even having the family owned 21 this was a big hiccup to our racing plans. As I was trying to figure out how we could make the 24 season work for us I got a call from the 55x Glastonbury cleaners mod team owned by the Bagot family. They wanted to team up and run the Tri Track series and this worked out perfect for me. We had a good season as a 1st year team and showed promising speed several times but unfortunately the mechanical gremlins were hard to overcome. When the team received a new Ford engine from Mike Pettit things started looking up ending the season with a P2 at Waterford after starting last on the field.
We also ran the family car several times with strong showings each time out. As we learned this new car and teamed up with Tony's Competition Engines with a new shock package we worked with SSR to design we found missing speed was there. We ran top 5 in all but one race with the 21 and just had some bad luck, bad calls and team mistakes that kept us from breaking into the winners circle.
Only raced dirt once in 24 and it ended up with a 4th place finish. I had fun in the dirt mods but without funding for a Big Block I think this was my last season in these cars.
As usual I hooked up with Randy Cabral last minute for a couple NEMA races and as always had a blast. Got to run a new track to me Hudson Speedway in NH. We were very fast and racing to the front when we developed a skip that ended up ending our day. I also got to run a bucket list track in these cars on the 5/8th mile Thompson Speedway. Weather was a major factor in this one with limited practice and no qualifying so we just missed the set up and were WAY to tight.
Our last race of the year was at Waterford in the 27 Sk. This one was about as last minute as it gets. I was done racing Saturday and out in the parking lot with the crew when Chase Cook asked if I'd be interested in running his other car. As Chase is about 5 inches taller and 100 pounds heavier we had some work to do in a hurry to get the 27 ready for me. We made the long drive out to his shop and spent the night adding led and setting the car up. Sunday morning the car was there and ready to go. We started 26th and finished 6th with a clean car. It was fun getting to run the bowl in an Sk again as I haven't really done that much.
New teams, new divisions and renewed enthusiasm make 25 look bigger and better than ever for 2024. Stay tuned for updates and announcements throughout the season!
